The hummingbird is the smallest bird in the world, the size of a bee. And despite its fragile appearance, it is the symbol of a community that defends change through respect for others, for a more ecological and united world.

Have you noticed my logo? The bird is a hummingbird. I did not choose it by chance. It is the bird of the Quechua Native American legend.

“One day,” says legend, “there was a huge forest fire. All terrified animals, aghast, watched helplessly disaster. Only the little hummingbird was bustling about, fetching a few drops with its beak to throw them on the fire. After a while, the armadillo, annoyed by this derisory agitation, said to him: “Hummingbird! Are you crazy ? You won't put out the fire with these drops of water! “

And the hummingbird replied, “I know it, but I'm doing my part. "

The Hummingbird, the bird that did not flee from the danger of fire but instead tried to extinguish the flames, on its own. The bird that did not stop in front of criticism from other animals ; that these efforts were in vain. The bird doing its part for a greener world.

The story thus told is however incomplete, and its end deserves to be revealed :

“The armadillo continues: 'Hummingbird! Did you know that several hundred men armed with flamethrowers are lighting fires all over what remains of the forest? They also poisoned the water you hold in your beak ”

But the Hummingbird, which was flying towards the flames, was already far away and could no longer hear.

Suddenly, a boar began to charge the men. With his tusks, he pierced gasoline tanks and the legs of arsonists. The armadillo discovering the scene, frightened, immediately said to the boar:

"You are crazy ! You discredit the efforts of the hummingbird. To anger humans, you risk your life, and that of all the animals in the forest. ! ”

And the boar answered him: "Wake up armadillo, I am doing what is necessary." "

The wild boar, the one who is ready to do battle with those who set the forest on fire ; the responsibles. An animal that is not afraid to use force to make itself heard or to stop the ongoing disaster. The one who does what is necessary.

I find myself in this legend. The Hummingbird is me : do your part and do your best. Sometimes I would like to be the boar, have its strength and the courage to challenge ideals. Stand up and fight to stop polluting and destructive actions against our environment.

In our society, we need everyone, both hummingbirds and wild boars. It is by joining forces and working together that we will succeed in creating a more ecological and united world.

The transformation of our societies requires collective action. ” (source : Mouvement Colibris https://www.colibris-lemouvement.org/).

The hummingbird ; the symbol of a movement that advocates values of sharing, community ... A great and beautiful mission for the smallest bird in the world.
